"Lyrical Impressionism-Lyrical Abstractionism"
"Intimate Landscapes-Romantic Places" --"Meditative Abstracts"

Recent news...
I recently completed a workshop with one of my favorite teachers/ mentor, Robert A. Johnson. Enhancing and elevating my techniques in brushwork has been a major theme during the past two years. Loving flowers and gardens as I do, and finding the spring blooms in my own garden to be intoxicating, I am finding myself in the studio lately setting up countless arrangements to paint.

In July I will be studying with Scott Christensen for a ten-day intensive workshop in the Teton Valley in Idaho.
______________________________________
I began my career as a watercolorist, but my focus in the past decade has been oil.
I describe my style as  representational/impressionist. I am known for "intimate landscapes" featuring old buildings in France and Italy. I have been painting for more than twenty years and most recently the greatest influences have been intensive studies with Master Painters Scott Christensen, Robert A. Johnson. Michael Workman and Kevin Weckbach.

I like to spend half of my paintings on location, "plein-air." The other paintings are done in the studio from reference photos or still life set-ups. Although I may begin with a photo,  I set the references aside and let my emotional response complete the painting, to give it the "Nyla Touch."  Many are surprised to learn that I have an abstract side to painting which finds its way into my representational work. I often do "warm-ups" in which I paint abstractly to interpret specific musical selections.

I am a prolific painter, usually completing 50 paintings each year. But I am also a gifted teacher and conduct private (mostly) classes in Oil, watercolor, acrylic and sketchbook techniques for the novice and serious painter.

I do hope you will take the time to review the categories of paintings on my website and give me feedback as to your favorite paintings.
